(MENAFN - Arab Times) Bassam Abdul-Majid, the Syrian Ambassador in Kuwait left for Syria Saturday at 9 pm via the Syrian Airlines flight number 342.
As a protest to the brutal and oppressive attitude the Syrian Regime has adopted towards its people, the GCC countries issued a joint statement to expel the ambassador of Syria from the respective countries.
The departure of Bassam AbdulMajid was in pursuant to the demand of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Khalid Al-Jarallah to honor this joint statement. However, this act does not indicate the end of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Embassy of Syria is still operational with a few diplomatic officials executing the necessary duties.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) is in constant contact with regional and international relief aid agencies in a bid to help the displaced and those adversely affected by the current political conflict in Syria, chairman of the KRCS Barjas al-Barjas told KUNA on Saturday.
He said it was imperative that the humanitarian situation in Syria be closely watched and a comprehensive plan be put in place by relief aid agencies to hand over aid directly to those who need it in that strife-ridden country.
Among the aid agencies KRCS was coordinating with regard to Syria, Al-Barjas mentioned the international union of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies and the int'l Red Cross Society and the Arab Red Crescent Society.
He emphasized that the KRCS was committed in its relief aid operations worldwide to international calls for help at times of humanitarian crises and natural catastrophes.
