(MENAFN - Jordan Times) Criminal Court Prosecutor Ramzi Nawayseh on Tuesday charged a 27-year-old physician with manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of his Ukrainian wife a day earlier, official sources said.

The suspect, a general practitioner (GP) at Al Bashir Hospital, reportedly admitted to stabbing his wife to death after a domestic dispute at their home in Sweileh, a senior judicial source said.

"The husband confessed to murdering his wife following an argument over the fact that he disconnected the Internet from the house," the source said.

Quoting the suspect's initial questioning, the source added that the argument became heated and the husband claimed that "his wife grabbed two knives from the kitchen to stab him".

"The suspect said he jumped on the victim and took the knives from her and stabbed her to death," the source noted.

A second source close to the investigations told The Jordan Times that "the victim was not happy with her life here and wanted to take her child and return to Ukraine".

"The suspect objected to this move and an argument ensued that turned into a heated confrontation which ended with the wife murdered."

Initial examination of the woman's body indicated that she received five stab wounds to her chest and back, another source told The Jordan Times, adding that Nawayseh had referred the victim's body to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine's University Branch for autopsy.

The suspect met the victim at a medical faculty while studying in Ukraine, according to the source. An official at the Ukrainian embassy contacted by The Jordan Times on Tuesday said that "the embassy currently does not have any information about the incident".

The suspect remains in custody at a correctional centre for 14 days pending further investigation into the case.
