(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Speaker of Kuwait's National Assembly Jassem Al-Kharafi lauded here Monday the outcomes of his recent visits to Morocco and Iran as "fruitful and successful".

Speaking to reporters about his recent tour of Rabat and Tehran, Al-Kharafi said: "The tour was so successful that there was good and fruitful dialogue with the Iranian parliament speaker (Ali Larijani)." He said he had met with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on how to further reinforce and cement cooperative relations between Kuwait and Iran and parliament-to-parliament relations.

He said both sides were eager to provide a healthy atmosphere for ensuring regional security and stability and wiping out potential fears and tensions.
Al-Kharafi was in Tehran to attend the recent Fifth International Conference on Palestinian Intifada.

The top Kuwaiti member of parliament also spoke highly of the outcome of his visit to Morocco where he had reiterated Kuwait's support for Rabat's candidate for Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) presidency.

Asked if he had discussed with Iranian officials the issue of the continental shelf between Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iran, he said that he was impressed by Iran's keenness on resolving the problem.

He hoped that both sides would sign a relevant agreement during a possible visit to Iran by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the invitation of the Iranian president with a view to bolstering bilateral ties.

Asked about recent Iraqi charges accusing Iraqi officials of receiving bribes from the Kuwaiti government over Kuwait's planned Mubarak Al-Kabeer seaport, he said: "I had a fruitful and good meeting with the Iraqi parliament speaker, during which we agreed to ignore irresponsible statements."

But, he reaffirmed that the new harbor project would be set up on the Kuwaiti soil and within the sovereignty of the State of Kuwait, which he said is keen to cause no harm to Iraq's watercourse.

Concerning a planned interpellation against HH the Prime Minister over the so-called "million deposits" issue, he said: 'Interpellation is a constitutional right that allows the MP to ask whatever he wants."

But, he went on to say: "There is no need to make much fuss about this issue." In this respect, he emphasized that problems and differences should be resolved in a more sensible manner.
