Egypt- WHO Cairo meeting focuses on non-communicable diseases control - health 

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 58th meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Committee, currently held here, is focusing on non-communicable diseases control and eradication of poliomyelitis, Kuwait Health Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr. Qais Al-Dowairi revealed Monday.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Dowairi, also member of the Executive Board of the Council of Health Ministers in Gulf Cooperation Council member states, noted that the Kuwaiti delegation has presented to the meeting a working paper on the latest developments in health research in Kuwait.

He added that the conferees reviewed a number of reports on health situation in the region, non-communicable diseases control, eradication of poliomyelitis, control and elimination of malaria, cancer prevention and control, regional emergency solidarity fund and progress made in operationalizing the regional hub for logistics and supply management, pandemic H1N1 and progress on the response and regional situation regarding road traffic injuries.

The participants also discussed the region's tobacco-free initiative.
On the sideline of the meeting, Kuwait's Minister of Health awarded Iranian Doctor Ali Reza Ansari the country's prize for the Control of Cancer, Cardiovascular Diseases and Diabetes in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Kuwait is participating, with a senior delegation headed by Minister Health Hilal Al-Sayer, in the session that was supposed to be held in Damascus, but the venue moved to Cairo due to the current circumstances in Syria.

Around 22 countries are partaking in the session.
