(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwaiti Minister of Commerce and Industry Amani Bouresli on Friday urged more attention to the Arab tourism sector to upgrade its performance and increase its value added.
In statements to KUNA before leaving the city of Aqaba after the conclusion of the 14th of the Council of Arab Ministers of Tourism, Bouresli said more efforts should be exerted to shed lights on the touristic sites in Arab countries.
"The Arab strategy for tourism promotion should be updated to cope with new challenges," she said.
"Legislation should be outlined to help tourism sector achieve the aspired goals." She also commended Jordan's host of the conference and its efforts to help it prove successful.
For his part, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan Dr. Hamad Al-Du'aij said Kuwait leadership, headed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is interested in participating in any effort serve the interests of the Arab countries.
Du'aij also lauded Jordanian-Kuwaiti strong ties, noting that Kuwait is the largest Arab investors in Jordan.
The 14th session of the executive office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Tourism (CAMT) kicked off here early Friday.
The conference, involving delegations of 22 Arab states, tackled plans for development of tourism, education, training in this sector and looming challenges.
In their final communiqu{, the participants declared the Omani city of Muscat, the capital of the Arab tourism for 2012 and the city of Damascus, the capital of the Arab Tourism for 2013.
The communiqu{ also urged Arab states to submit their nominations for the capital of Arab tourism for the years 2014 and 2015 before the end of March 2012.
The conferees asked the Ministry of Tourism in the State of Palestine to provide information about the archeological and historical Arab sites so that the council could promote them worldwide.
They also agreed on allocating the Arab Award for Quality Tourism for the year 2013 to tourism colleges and training institutes.
The Ministerial Council will hold its 15th session on May 30-31, 2012, in Iraq, to be preceded by tenth session of the Executive Office of the Arab Tourism Ministers on May 28-29.
