(MENAFN - Qatar News Agency) Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June, 2011. The CPI for the month of June, 2011 reached 109.0 with base year 2007=100. Index showed an increase of 0.1% when compared to May 201, and an increase of 1.8%, when compared to June 2010, the QSA said in a statement today. A comparison of the CPI for June, 2011with that of May, 2011 at the major group level shows an increase of 0.9 % in food, beverages & tobacco, 0.7% increase in Transport and Communications, 0.6 % increase in Garments & Footwear. Miscellaneous Goods & Services show an increase of 0.4%. However, the group of rent, fuel and energy has declined by 1.0%, due to the increase in supply of rental properties.. This decline is seen after near stagnation of rental prices observed from August, 2010.
Compared to the CPI of June, 2010, the analysis (Year on Year basis) by major group level shows increases ranging between 9.3% and 2.5% in the prices of all the groups.. The highest increase was in the clothing and footwear group, where prices went up by 9.3%.Food & beverages group, and Transport & Communications group both increased by 5.9% . Miscellaneous goods and services increased, by 4.6% and medical care, by 2.5%. Prices in the group of Rent declined by (4.3%), offsetting the increase in other major groups leading to an overall increase of 1.8% only.
A CPI exclusive of the Rent group has also been calculated. After eliminating the effect of rent, the overall index shows an increase by 0.5% compared with May, 2011, and an increase of 4.3% compared to the month of June, 2010.
