The European Stocks closed mixed today as jobless claims in the U.S rose above estimates during last week, along with rising consumer prices through January, which spread fears among investors over the outlook of the U.S.
STOXX 600 ended higher today by 0.15% at 291.16; STOXX 50 ended also in green, higher by 0.36% at 2768.65.
CAC 40 Index
The French benchmark index ended in the green today to settle at 4152.31, higher by 1.05 points or 0.03%. The index opened at 4160.78 recording a high of 4163.44 and a low of 4129.57.
The best performers in terms of added value to the index were led by Schneider Electrics SA which inclined 2.52% to settle at €117.95. Following was Societe Generale which surged 1.56% to settle at €52.04, while coming in third was Cap Gemini SA which rose 7.63% to close at €42.89.
As for the worst performing shares, they were AXA SA as it fell 3.30% to end at €15.40; Pernod-Ricard SA as it shed 4.28% to settle at €67.61 and France Telecom SA which declined 0.77% to settle at €16.19.
DAX Index
German equities declined today where the benchmark index DAX 30 ended lower by 8.79 points or 0.12% to close at 7405.51. The index opened at 7429.00 recording a high of 7434.93 and a low of 7364.04.
Driving the index higher by contributing the most to the index today were led by BASF SE that gained 1.11% to €60.97; following was by E.ON AG as it added 0.82% to €242.68 and Siemens AG which added 0.40% to €97.29.
Lagging shares were Deutsche Bank AG which fell 1.41% to €47.85, Daimler AG as it lost 1.06% to settle at €52.97 and Volkswagen AG that settled at €121.05 down 1.59%.
FTSE 100 Index
The British benchmark index ended the day higher to settle at 6087.38 with a gain of 2.11 points or 0.03%. The index opened the day at 6085.27 setting the high of 6101.42 and the low of 6066.71.
Leading shares in terms of contribution today started with HSBC Holdings PLC which surged 1.30% to close at £730.90; following was Royal Dutch Shell PLC which added 1.26% to end trading at £2173.5 and Lloyds Banking Group which added 2.95% to close at £69.17.
Meanwhile, lagging shares were led by Vodafone Group PLC where it ended down by 1.09%, closing at £180.75; following was Xstrata PLC which shed 2.51% to close at £1440.00 and BAE Systems PLC which slipped 4.16% to close at £340.00.
