(MENAFN - Khaleej Times) More locations in the Capital will fall under the Mawaqif paid parking fees scheme from today, the Department of Transport (DoT) said on Saturday. The new paid parking areas are located between Corniche Road, East Road and Khalifa Street, with a total of 1,436 surface parking bays and 723 underground areas.
There are two types of parking in the Capital" premium and standard.
Paid parking is enforced from 8am to 9pm, from Saturdays to Thursdays, at a rate of Dh3 per hour for premium parking (the color of the curbstones are turquoise and white) with a maximum stay of four hours, and Dh2 per hour or Dh15 per day for standard parking (the color of the curbstones are turquoise and black).
Engineer Najib Al Zarooni, general manager of the parking at DoT said, Residents in the area can apply for resident permits from Mawaqif customer service centers. Residential permits allow road users to park in any available standard parking bay in the area where they reside. By clearly displaying the permit on the vehicle dashboard, they will be exempt from paying hourly or daily tariffs at the parking meters.
This permit is available to owners or tenants and their first of kin residing with them, mother, father, spouse and children, with a maximum of two permits per household. Each permit is sector and vehicle specific, Al Zarooni explained.
Documents
The documents required to obtain the resident permit include a passport copy with valid residency visa, lease of contract or residency ownership proof, last electric bill, vehicle ownership, relationship proof for the vehicle owner if different from the tenancy contract.
The annual fees for the resident permit is Dh800 for the first vehicle and Dh1,200 for the second vehicle. Verification and processing of resident permits take a minimum of three working days.
