(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Several agreements for youth employment related programmes were announced during the second Silatech summit, involving different agencies and Arab countries.

The Middle East Youth Initiative

The Wolfensohn Center for Development at the Brookings Institute, along with the Dubai School of Government, has signed a three-year deal with Silatech to finance and develop a range youth employment initiatives.

Three programmes have been agreed, including the development of Youth Knowledge Labs; launching an Evaluation for Excellence working group and undertaking policy dialogue with all stakeholders involved in promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship in the

MENA region.

Skills Development Services

Pearson Education and Silatech are collaborating to create a broad programme of Skills Development Services, including SilaQual, to create a MENA regional qualification awarding body and SilaTrain, which aims to provide and manage the delivery processes for Arabic-language courses through accredited trainers and partners.

Pearson is an international media and education company with world leading businesses in education, business information and consumer publishing — best known to the general public as owner of the Financial Times newspaper.

Pan-Arab Leadership Development Initiative

Silatech has also launched the Pan-Arab Leadership Development Initiative, a joint programme devised with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation (MBRF).

The initiative will focus on entrepreneurs and seeks to develop the skills needed to grow business and employment across the region.

Help for SMEs

Silatech has teamed up with GOIC to develop profitable and competitive small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and provide a wide range of market support for existing businesses hoping to grow across the region.

A key advisory institution for GCC governments and private investors in the GCC region, GOIC will partner Silatech in acting as a catalyst and, where appropriate, co-brand and co-sponsor the development and implementation of joint programme initiatives.

Job placements

Consolidated Contractors Company is collaborating with Silatech to ensure that the skills young trainees acquire through SilaTrain and SilaQual — Silatech's pioneering new skills programmes — are put into good use through an extensive

job placement.

The collaboration will focus on providing skills development (through "SilaTrain" and "SilaQual"), counseling and job placement for young people, furthering local content and supply chain linkages, strengthening the enabling environment for construction, engineering and other appropriate businesses and encouraging young people and women entrepreneurs.

Targeting the right sectors

Silatech has tied up with leading US economic modeling specialists EMSI to ensure that its programmes have the greatest possible impact by targeting industries and sectors with the greatest employment potential.

EMSI and Silatech are creating a state-of-the-art economic model, which will serve as a compass for investment of resources and the development of programmes across the MENA region.
