(MENAFN Press) Sukuk or Islamic Securities is gaining increasing acceptability as an international capital markets instrument. Governments all over the world including the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Turkey have or are in the process of introducing tax neutrality laws to facilitate the introduction of such instruments in their markets.
Sukuk are used to raise funding for balance sheet purposes; expansion; projects; savings and even as a monetary policy management tool. While Sukuk structures have traditionaly been dominated by the vanilla Sukuk Al Ijarah (leasing Sukuk) and the Musharaka Sukuk (Equity Participation Sukuk), there are over 22 different types of Sukuk structures which can be utilised for a whole range of purposes. For instance a few years ago the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore issued the first and only Sukuk backed by Waqf assets. The proceeds were used to renovate these assets which were subsequently rented out thus generating an income stream for the Waqf.
As the Sukuk market gains increasing prominence, the opportunities for arrangers, issuers and investors similarly are increasing. As such, understanding Sukuk - the issues, structuring, Shariah compliance and governance and the potential for innovation assumes an even greater importance.
In this context, the 2009 London Sukuk Summit is organising a unique Sukuk Masterclass on the 1st July 2009, hosted and sponsored by City law firm, Ashurst LLP, at their London headquarters (see map below). This is a unique opportunity for corporates and other interested stakeholders to learn more about Sukuk and its various issues from a team of renowned experts who have arranged, structured and closed several offerings both in the Middle East and in Asia over the last few years.
This Masterclass will keep you informed and abreast about the market and structuring trends in Sukuk; the latest Shariah thinking on Sukuk structures; asset allocation; intermediation and asset facilitation, with special emphasis on real estate assets. It is aimed at executives across the management spectrum and various stakeholders interested in Islamic finance, Sukuk and capital markets.
This is one Masterclass that anyone interested in Sukuk cannot afford to miss. Places are limited so please reserve your place now to avoid disappointment.
