Berry, Dingess combine for no-hitter in 15-0 win by CMS
Apr 05, 2012 (Menafn - The Logan Banner - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --It was a "Berry" good night for the Chapmanville Middle School baseball team on Tuesday night at George Washington.
Chapmanville's Alex Berry and Jacob Dingess combined to fire a no-hitter as the Tigers rolled over GW, 15-0, in a Black Diamond Conference road victory.
The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Tigers improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Berry started the game on the hill and struck out eight, while walking just one in three innings of work. Dingess then came in to hurl two scoreless innings with four strikeouts and five walks with no runs and no hits allowed.
Dingess had two hits and two runs scored for Chapmanville. Josh Bazilla and Drew Browning each had a pair of hits as well. Chris Bailey, Berry and Josh Zigmond all had one hit for the Tigers. CMS capitalized on several issued walks by George Washington pitchers.
"Overall it was a good effort tonight," CMS coach Kevin Runyon said. "Our pitchers are throwing the ball well. This makes the second game that we haven't given up a hit, but we're still giving up too many walks. We hit the ball well tonight. We got some key hits with runners in scoring position. We were able to clear the bench and get everyone in the game, which is a plus considering we have a lot of young kids with very little experience at this level. Our young kids are coming around. We have seven kids that can drop back and play Little League. It has been a learning experience for them moving up to play middle school.
"We are working our kids hard at practice. My assistants, Dwight Dingess and Bo Berry, do a great job teaching these kids the game of baseball. We are off for spring break, so we'll practice a few days before getting ready to go to Sherman."
The Tigers travel to Seth to take on the Sherman Tide on Monday, April 9. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m. CMS is then set to host county rival Man on April 11 before going to play at Duval on April 14 at noon at Lincoln County High School's baseball field.
