AIM Autosport Team FXDD Racing with Ferrari Takes First Place in Homestead Miami

On a rain-swept track in Miami, Canadian team AIM Autosport FXDD and drivers Emil Assentato and Jeff Segal won their very first victory with the team's new Ferrari 458 Italia Grand AM yesterday (April 29) taking an early-season lead in the Grand AM Rolex Sports Car Series GT Team and Driver Championship Standings.
AIM Autosport is the only Canadian-owned company competing full-time in the Rolex Series. The victory for the team is the second in three years at Homestead Miami Speedway for Segal and Assentato and is the first for the Grand AM in the team's third race this season.
Winning driver, Jeff Segal talked about his team's big win.
"The race was really, really difficult," said Segal. "We kind of saw in practice this morning that it was going to be interesting but the car was as good as it could be and really our job was just to keep the car on the track... protect the car. We did that. We weren't off the track - not even one time. I just watched as cars flew off the road in front of me, hit each other, had a couple of good races... fortunately, the timing worked out that we made one pretty critical pass right at the end right before the rain rolled in.
"Just really, really excited about the direction this program is heading. Obviously we have a lot of races left to go but I think everybody is comfortable with the car. We're comfortable with each other so we're hoping that this is the start of a good run this season."
Co-driver, Emil Assentato also spoke about the victory, crediting his teammate.
"It was a hell of a day for everybody," said Assentato. "Everyone had tough conditions to fight and the driving out there was spectacular. Of course, I was thrilled to be in the 458 GT car. We had a very good car today... pretty much was a drivers' race, not a car race... Jeff did a fantastic job when he took over the second seat there."
