Hunt for eggs, have breakfast or take a ride with the bunny this weekend
Mar 29, 2012 (Menafn - The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --There are plenty of Easter-related activities this weekend, particularly for kids. Get out and enjoy spring at these events:
-- Take the kids hunting for eggs before the Easter Bunny arrives at the Angora Gardens Easter Egg Hunt, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mon Yough Community Service facility in White Oak Park. Kids can search for plastic Easter eggs that Angora Gardens clients, who receive social and mental rehabilitation, fill with candy and hide. Kids will get a treat bag and a complimentary beverage at the event, which has free admission. Kids can get their faces painted, make crafts and get pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. Live rabbits available for adoption from Rabbit Wranglers will be there. Angora Gardens is at 3 Muse Lane in White Oak. Reservations are required. Details: 412-675-8556
-- Families can enjoy an early meal with the season's celebrity rabbit Saturday at the National Aviary, which is hosting Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. The event includes a hot breakfast, a craft, a takeaway treat and photos with the Easter Bunny. Bring your camera. Cost for the event, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., is 25. Reservations are required. Details: 412-258-9445 or www.aviary.org
-- Take the kids and hop on over to the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum for its annual Bunny Trolley event, on Saturday and Sunday, and April 6 and 7. At the event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors will take a ride with the Easter Bunny on a antique restored trolley, make springtime crafts and enjoy an egg hunt. An Easter Shuttle will take visitors to the Trolley Display Building, which houses more than 30 streetcars. Complimentary pink lemonade and popcorn will be served, and children can see live rabbits from Washington County's 4 Leaf 4-H club. Rides with the bunny depart every 45 minutes, with the last ride leaving at 4 p.m. Admission is 9; 8 for senior citizens; and 7 for ages 1 to 15. Details: 724-228-9256 or www.pa-trolley.org
-- If a child has autism or another disability, Ross Park and South Hills Village malls on Sunday are offering a chance for the kids to have quiet time with the Easter Bunny. The Caring Bunny event at Ross Park -- presented by Autism Connection of PA, a program of ABOARD (Advisory Board on Autism and Related Disorders) -- is from 9 to 11 a.m. at the two malls. The event takes place before the mall stores open, so kids can enjoy a photo session with the famous rabbit in an environment without lines, crowds or loud music. Reservations are recommended. The South Hills Village mall event is presented by the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. To make reservations for the South Hills Village event, call 412-856-7223.
