Homosassa River a harbor for artists
May 07, 2012 (Menafn - The Orlando Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --A group of artists, who make their living around the Homosassa River in Citrus County, will display some of their works at the Leesburg Center for the Arts, 429 W. Magnolia St.
The "Riverwalk" exhibit, which runs through May 31, opens Friday with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
Wayne Timm works will treat participants to views along the river featuring landmarks such as the Yulee Sugar Mill ruins, as well as the extensive wildlife residing in the area like manatee and cormorant.
Martha Ann Brunsink and Angela Davis from Pepper Creek Pottery will delight with whimsical raku fish, functional pottery and saggar-fired vessels. Louise Whitney and Lori Lenoir from the Glass Garage create striking stained-glass panels, fused-glass gifts and dichroic-glass jewelry.

Night of the Arts
The Tavares Middle School Night of the Arts is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at M&I Bank, 2722 E. Burleigh Blvd. (U.S. Highway 441), Eustis.
Every student in the art class will have a piece displayed. Members of the Renaissance Club and the drama class will present a poetry jam at 6 p.m. The FCA band will perform. Baked goods prepared by the school's culinary class will be served.
A 50 Visa gift card donated by M&I will be given away.
The artwork will be on display from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 14 through 18.
Artists of the month
Diane Brooks and Kimberly Turner are May's artists of the month at Artisans on Fifth, an artists' cooperative gallery shop in Mount Dora. A free reception and open house will kick off their exhibit from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery shop, 134 E. Fifth Ave.
Brooks designs glass-bottle lights. She hand draws a pattern onto a glass bottle and then applies glass paint to create colorful designs. Turner is a self-taught artist whose work combines mixed media, folk art and art for children.
