KeyBank to open ninth new branch
Mar 17, 2012 (Menafn - The Buffalo News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --KeyCorp said this week that its ninth new Western New York branch since 2009 will open April 16 in Lancaster, even as the Cleveland-based bank prepares to acquire 37 HSBC Bank USA branches in the Buffalo and Rochester markets from First Niagara Financial Group.
The new 3,900-square-foot office at 5207 Broadway is one of 40 new offices KeyBank is opening nationwide in 2011 and 2012, as the bank continues a large multiyear branch expansion effort at a time when other banks are cutting back. The bank, which has more than 1,000 offices in 14 states, has opened dozens of new branches and renovated a few hundred others in recent years.
It's also buying 26 HSBC offices in Buffalo and 11 in Rochester from First Niagara, with 2.4 billion in deposits and 400 million in loans, as part of First Niagara's purchase of 195 HSBC offices statewide. The Buffalo offices in particular are being divested by First Niagara to comply with an antitrust order by the U.S. Justice Department.
"Increasing the number of branches and adding improvements within will help achieve our goal of improving convenience while enhancing the quality of service we offer to our clients and guests," said Gary Quenneville, president of the bank's Western New York district.
"Our branches are designed and located to be good neighbors and to fit compatibly and conveniently in our communities. It's part of our broader strategy to enhance our delivery channels and advance our employees as well."
The new Lancaster office will be led by branch manager Bonnie Kell, a former vice president and branch manager at Bank of America Corp., who will oversee a staff of seven, including two new hires, who will provide retail banking, investment products, private banking, small business banking and commercial banking services.
