Next Station University -- Inspiration by Action

HONG KONG, Apr 10, 2012 (Menafn - GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --City Telecom (HK) Limited CTEL was extremely proud to see the achievement of Advanced Diploma in Business Management by our 48 eminent Talents, who have completed the 3rd stage of our in-house "Next Station: University" programme. This partnership programme with Hong Kong Management Association aims to support our Talents in achieving their dream of a World Class University Degree, sponsoring over 80% of the tuition fee at HKD110,000 (USD14,100) per Talent. Having reached base camp, our colleagues are ready to make the climb for their Business Management Degree by the University of Wales (UK), under this 4-stage, 5-year programme.

At City Telecom, we strive to inspire our Talents rather than to motivate them. By definition, every major breakthrough in human achievement appears to be impossible before it is done by the first person, after which it becomes the norm, e.g. 10.00 secs for 100m sprint, 4.00 minute mile, climbing Mt Everest, etc. The mile run was considered an impossible feat until Roger Bannister broke it at 3.59.4 in 1954 but since then, it has fallen to 3.43.13 in 1999.

At City Telecom, certain things for certain people appear to be near impossible, e.g. getting a University Degree for many of our front line Talents, getting a MBA for our senior managers, completing the 21km 1/2 marathon or 42km full marathon, etc. However, once one or a few colleagues achieve these breakthroughs, it becomes our company norm.

City Telecom culture turns the impossible into possible for our Talents. We don't mind losing money on an individual, e.g. we sponsor 80-90% of the HKD110,000 per student tuition fees for our Next Station University colleagues, as long as that one individual can help inspire our other 3,000 colleagues to greater things. In short, if we can get 5 Talents to inspire 5 other Talents 5 times, then this translates to 3,125, which equates to our entire Talent base.

The Graduation Ceremony, proudly hosted by our top management, featured a guest speaker - local veteran actress, Ms. Yu Mo Lin, who is renowned for her charity in providing education to rural area students in Mainland China. During the celebrations, our Talents shared their personal growth throughout the past 3 years of degree pursuit.

Distinguished Student, Boris Wong, Sales Manager has refreshed his understanding to "Success," "Whether you get a Grade E / just a pass at score of 60, or aim for a Grade A and a distinction is a personal choice. You can get a Bachelor Degree either way, but it's your way of life you are choosing for yourself. For me, I will fight all my way to be at the top." While Colo Law, District Service Engineer II, has gained exposure to the business world, "Now I can better understand the financial terms and knowing what's going on in the global economy and businesses. I feel I can appreciate the whole world a lot more... This is a wonderful sensation."
