Honda recalling 268,655 CR-V crossovers

WASHINGTON, Oct 6, 2012 (Menafn - UPI via COMTEX) --Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co. is recalling 268,655 CR-V crossover vehicles because of a defective power window switch, a federal agency said Saturday.

The recall affects the 2002-2006 model years, specifically those manufactured from Feb. 19, 2002, through July 28, 2006, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website.

The problem is with the driver-side power window switch, which may fail or melt, even if the vehicle is not in use. Failure could cause the switch to overheat, possibly producing smoke or a fire, the administration said.

As a precaution, the agency advises owners to park their vehicles outside until the recall repair is performed.

The recall is to begin on or about Nov. 2.

Owners can call Honda at 1-800-999-1009, or contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Honda's campaign recall number is S61.
