BRIEF: Shipyard gets 82M modification for Navy carrier work

Mar 31, 2012 (Menafn - The Virginian-Pilot - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --The Navy has awarded Newport News Shipbuilding an 82 million modification to a previously awarded contract for the midlife makeover of the carrier Theodore Roosevelt.

The "refueling and complex overhaul" is a one-time event in the life of a carrier that includes the refueling of its reactors, as well as extensive upgrades.

The process is intended to extend the life of a carrier by 25 years, to a total of 50 years. The work will be performed in Newport News and is expected to be completed by February 2013. Newport News Shipbuilding is a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.
