3 Die in botched robbery on Honduran bus

Tegucigalpa, Nov 15, 2011 (Menafn - EFE via COMTEX) --Three people, including a police officer, were killed and four others wounded in a botched robbery on an intercity bus in eastern Honduras, authorities said.

The incident occurred in the Troyes district of El Paraiso province, police deputy inspector Jorge Estrada said in Tegucigalpa, identifying the dead as 52-year-old policeman Santos Alberto Escoto and would-be assailants Adenis Cruz and Adan Zelaya.

Escoto, who was traveling on the bus, confronted the two men when they launched their assault and a gunfight ensued, Estrada said.

Zelaya was released from prison last week after serving a sentence for robbery, the deputy inspector noted.

Crime scene investigators found a shotgun and a revolver on the bus and shells for the shotgun in the pockets of Zelaya's pants, a source with the prosecutor's office said. EFE
