BRIEF: Checkered Flag gets Land Rover dealership
Dec 08, 2012 (Menafn - The Virginian-Pilot - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Checkered Flag Motor Car will take over the Land Rover franchise from Phillips Automotive at the end of the year, said Steve Snyder, Checkered Flag's executive vice president. Phillips, which is leaving the car business, announced in August that it was selling its Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover dealerships to Charles Barker Automotive.
The Land Rover part of that deal changed, however, because Tata Motors, an Indian company, has indicated its intention to merge its Jaguar and Land Rover brands under single dealerships in about 50 percent of locations. Checkered Flag already owns the local Jaguar franchise. Dealership transfers need automaker approval. Phillips, Charles Barker and Checkered Flag are all based in Virginia Beach.
