BRIEF: Southwest Airlines to fly between Wichita, Kan., and Las Vegas
Nov 19, 2012 (Menafn - Las Vegas Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --When Southwest Airlines inaugurates service to its 85th city -- Wichita, Kan. -- next year, it will kick it off with nonstop flights to and from Las Vegas.
The Dallas-based carrier, the busiest at McCarran International Airport, announced today that it would assume all AirTran Airways routes to Wichita on June 3 and add five flights on three nonstop routes, including one daily flight between McCarran and Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.
Southwest will compete on the route with Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air, which has four flights a week to and from Wichita.
Southwest is introducing the route with discounted one-way fares of 109 that have to be booked by Sunday.
Southwest also is adding two nonstop flights a day between Wichita and Chicago's Midway Airport and Dallas Love Field.
Southwest's newest schedule includes the Wichita flights and offers one- and two-stop flights from Las Vegas, in addition to the nonstops.
Nonstop flights to Wichita will leave Las Vegas at 5:35 p.m., arriving at 10:05 p.m., Central time, with the return flight leaving Wichita at 11:20 a.m., and arriving at in Las Vegas at 11:50 a.m. local time.
