Boulder police looking for 6 suspects in trashing of former frat house

Dec 28, 2012 (Menafn - Daily Camera - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Boulder police are looking for six men who caused 70,000 worth of damage to a former fraternity house in November.

The vandalism occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 17 at the former Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at 1101 University Ave., according to police. Video surveillance captured images of the six suspects throwing rocks and breaking windows while standing outside the building before pushing a table against a wall to enter the building through the second story, police said.

Once inside, the suspects kicked in a wall and set off a fire extinguisher before causing additional damage, according to officials.

The suspects all appear to be white males 18 to 25 years old. A white female was seen with the suspects outside the building but was not seen entering.

It's not the first time the building has been in the news after criminal activity.

When Sigma Alpha Epsilon was still in the building in 2008, a suspect threw an incendiary device into the fraternity house. While the occupants were able to extinguish the fire quickly and no one was hurt in the blaze, a fight broke out afterward, resulting in one person being injured.

A fraternity member also was assaulted in 2009 after confronting a group of men who were throwing rocks at the house.

No suspects were ever arrested even as the reward for information got up to 4,000.

The building is currently vacant after Sigma Alpha Epsilon moved to the former Boulder International Hostel at 1107 12th St.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Kipp Euler at 303-441-3393. Those who have information but wish to remain anonymous may contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776.

Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to 1,000 from Crime Stoppers.
