The Holiday Inn Yuma is one of only 102 properties out of more than 4,500 IHG system hotels within the Americas honored for achieving the highest levels of excellence in all aspects of operation from quality to customer satisfaction. The 2012 Torchbearer trophy is on permanent display at the hotel.
-- Yuma Truck Driving School has been named to the national Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media. The list honors colleges, universities and trade schools in the United States that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.
Victory Media (militaryfriendlyschools.com) provides the military community with resources to assist in their search for the best school to suit their needs and preferences. The 2013 list was compiled from more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide.

-- Arizona Public Service Co., and regional director Phil Smithers, has been honored as the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce Member of the Month for November.
APS, Arizona's largest and longest-serving electrical utility, serves more than 1.1 million customers in 11 of the state's 15 counties. With headquarters in Phoenix, APS is the principal subsidiary of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation.
In Yuma County, the mission of the 75 APS employees is to safely and efficiently generate and deliver reliable electricity and related services to more than 70,000 residential and business customers. In addition to over 1,700 miles of existing overhead and underground 12kV distribution lines, APS continually plans to meet the future energy needs of the area with infrastructure upgrades.
Recent and forthcoming projects to increase service and power reliability include a new 69kV line from San Luis to the south Yuma Mesa, the South O'Neil Substation at MCAS, the planned DePont Substation, a planned 230kV line to the north and east part of Yuma and the accompanying planned 230kV TS-8 Substation.
In addition, APS has a tradition to giving back to communities it serves. Last year, APS invested more than 7.8 million in organizations and programs throughout Arizona, and APS employees donated more than 150,000 volunteer hours.
-- Vista Moving and Storage LLC of, an agent of the nationwide household goods carrier Mayflower, was honored recently by the van line for exceptional professional performance. The recognition was conferred during Mayflower's 2012 Convention as part of the van line's annual awards program.
Vista Moving and Storage received the Performance Excellence Award, recognizing agents for their focus on customers' needs and expectations.

-- American Suzuki Motor Corp., rocked by a plunge in volume while the industry has climbed back from recession, is ending U.S. auto sales after nearly 30 years and has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company, in a recent statement, said it will maintain its motorcycle and marine engine business units and will continue to honor auto customers' warranties.
