Perlmutter Supports Highway And Student Loan Compromises, Suggests Bipartisan Support For Production Tax Credit And Keystone Pipeline

Ed Perlmutter issued the following statement in support of the bipartisan compromise on the transportation and student loan proposals. Perlmutter also released a letter he sent along with fellow Colorado Representative Cory Gardner urging House Leadership to pursue a compromise extending the Production Tax Credit as well as authorizing construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. Originally, the Reps. suggested these proposals be included with the compromise Surface Highway Transportation Reauthorization Package being considered today, which Perlmutter also supports.
Perlmutter stated, "For our economy to fully recover, we need an America built to last. This bill makes us more competitive for the long-term and puts millions of Americans to work in the near term. This bill will improve roads, bridges and transit, and make an impact on everyone's community. Americans need certainty and stability in our economy. The transportation package today ensures thousands of jobs for workers in Colorado and throughout the nation as well as the safety of our families."
Furthermore, the bipartisan compromise keeps student loan interest rates low.
"It is a relief to thousands of hardworking Coloradans that we prevented what would amount to a 1000 per year tax hike on the middle class by maintaining the low student loan interest rate. Colorado families are working hard trying to make ends meet and ensuring our young people are prepared to enter the work force. I want to put Coloradans and Americans back to work providing them the tools for success, and higher education is critical to our children's and our country's future and our ability to compete in the global economy," continued Perlmutter.
Perlmutter will continue working with House Leadership to promptly pass an extension of the Production Tax Credit which will provide important tax relief for small businesses and help maintain thousands of jobs in Colorado.
"We shouldn't run out the clock to show we can work together for the good of America. Extending the Production Tax Credit and building the Keystone XL pipeline is critical to our national energy security and independence. It will help us build and maintain good jobs here in America so we don't continue losing and sending important manufacturing and development jobs overseas to countries like China. I urge House and Senate leadership to work together on a compromise on these two important proposals that have bipartisan support in both chambers," said Perlmutter.
