Book Notes: Barnes & Noble holiday drive benefits Kate's Kart program

Garrett author Janie Ebinger will sign copies of her cookbooks, "Simply Vinaigrettes," "Janie's Simply Entree Salads for Two" and "Live Well Eat Well" at noon Sunday at the Olive Twist, 6410 W. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 7A.
Book benefit
Open Books will hold a special charity drive in honor of Hoosier author Susie Duncan Sexton's paperback release "Secrets of an Old Typewriter." Open Books will donate 1 to the Symphony Animal Foundation for every copy sold Thursday through Dec. 9 on Amazon.com. The book is available in paperback, digital and Kindle.
Book drive
Barnes & Noble is holding its annual holiday book drive through Jan. 1. Barnes & Noble Booksellers at Jefferson Pointe and Glenbrook Square are teaming up to provide customers the opportunity to purchase books, which will then be donated to area children through Kate's Kart, a local nonprofit founded in memory of Katherine Ann Layman, known affectionately as "Baby Kate." Kate's Kart is dedicated to supplying free new books to hospitalized children to keep for their enjoyment. Call Barnes & Noble at 432-3343 for more information.
Holiday story time
A special reading of "Polar Express" with special Elf on the Shelf activities take place at 7 p.m. Friday at Barnes & Noble, Jefferson Pointe.
