Chesterfield outlet mall accelerates opening
Sep 10, 2012 (Menafn - St. Louis Post-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --One developer in the race to build rival outlet malls in Chesterfield has accelerated its construction schedule.
Taubman Centers Inc., based in Bloomfield, Mich., said Monday that its new outlet mall under construction in Chesterfield will open nearly three months earlier than previously announced. The Taubman Prestige Outlets Chesterfield outlet mall is being pushed up so the opening date, Aug. 2, 2013, is in time for Missouri's back-to-school sales tax holiday weekend next year, Aug. 2-4.
The first phase of the mall will have 310,000 square feet of space and about 80 stores when it opens, the company said. An additional 140,000 square feet of space, with between 30 and 40 stores, will open in the spring of 2014. Stores that that have either signed leases or given space commitments to open stores at the mall include Banana Republic, Gap, Furla, Ed Hardy, Billabong, and Lucky Brand Jeans.
A groundbreaking for the mall, located near the Boone's Crossing exit at Highway 40, was held on July 25. At the time, company officials said the mall would open in late October 2013.
Taubman's is one of two outlet malls under construction in Chesterfield. Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group also is building an outlet mall, located a few miles to the west near the Daniel Boone Bridge. Simon's St. Louis Premium Outlets, which will have 350,000 square feet of space, is set to open in September 2013, the company confirmed Monday.
A few of the tenants that have made tenant commitments at Simon's outlet mall include: Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th, Ann Taylor, J.Crew, Tommy Hilfiger, Brooks Brothers, Under Armour, Nine West, Jones New York, Reebok, Easy Spirit, Van Heusen, Maidenform, Hot Topic, Crabtree and Evelyn, and Hanesbrands.
