Dec 27, 2012 (Menafn - AME Info - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --DEAL SIGNED FOR BUTANOL PLANT IN SAUDI ARABIA: An agreement has been signed agreement to establish the Saudi Butanol Co, which will produce butanol to support the continued growth of the paints and coatings industry in Saudi Arabia, Arab News has reported. The deal was signed by Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Co, an affiliate of the Saudi Basic Industries Corp (Sabic), Sadara Chemical Co (Sadara), a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and The Dow Chemical Co, and Saudi Acrylic Acid Co (SAAC), an affiliate of National Industrialisation Co (Tasnee) and Sahara Petrochemicals Co. To be located at Tasnee Petrochemicals Complex in Jubail Industrial City and operated by Tasnee, the new plant is scheduled to go on-stream in the first quarter of 2015.
UAE TAKES TOP MANUFACTURING COMPETITIVENESS SPOT: According to a report by global consultancy and financial advisory firm Deloitte, the UAE is the Middle East's top competitive manufacturing country, and is expected to continue the leading position in the next five years, Khaleej Times has reported. In the region, three countries made the list of the most competitive manufacturing countries, including the UAE on top with 3.93 index score, followed by Saudi Arabia at 3.57 score, and Egypt scored 3.24 in the 2013 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index. Globally, the UAE ranked 30, Saudi Arabia at 34 and Egypt at 36 in the Deloitte index. "The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are expected to move up in ranking five years from now," said Bakr Abulkhair, chairman and managing partner at Deloitte & Touche Bakr Abulkhair & Co, Saudi Arabia.
