NYK Coal Carrier Resumes Direct Shipments to Earthquake-Damaged Area
Nov 20, 2012 (Menafn - M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --On November 19, a 90,000 DWT NYK-operated bulk carrier " Haramachimaru " filled with coal arrived at a dedicated port for a thermal power station operated by Tohoku Electric Power Co. Inc. (headquarters:Sendai)(headquarters:Miyagi prefecture)(president:Wataru Kaiwa). This was the first arrival of a coal carrier at the berth since the Great East Japan Earthquake last year. The berth is located in the town of Haramachi, and wharf operations restarted as the power station became operational again. A total of 89,000 tons of coal from Newcastle, Australia, was unloaded from the vessel, Haramachimaru . The area's recovery efforts are expected to greatly benefit from the resumption of the power station and these coal shipments. NYK will continue its efforts to aid reconstruction of the affected area and help maintain a stable supply of energy resources.
