Young thespians reach back to '70s in staging 'Joseph'

Nov 11, 2012 (Menafn - Albuquerque Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --PLAY Conservatory will present Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's popular musical "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" as its fall spectacular.

It tells the biblical saga of Joseph of Canaan and his coat of many colors. Beginning its life in 1967 as a 20-minute "pop cantata" for a grade school concert, "Joseph" was revived and expanded in the mid-1970s and eventually made its way to Broadway in 1982. This song-and-dance spectacular has gone on to charm audiences around the world with its cornucopia of musical styles.

With a cast of 42 students ages 6 to 18, this rendition of "Joseph" celebrates the TV variety shows of the 1970s. Complete with a children's choir and Dream Dancers, this groovy "retrospectacular" is appropriate for all ages.

The musical is directed by Jonathan Dunski, with vocal direction by Kristen Hutchinson and choreography by Jonathan Ragsdale.
