BOE approves agenda items

MASON, Dec 22, 2012 (Menafn - Point Pleasant Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --At the most recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education, board members approved the following agenda and personnel items.

Approved Minutes, Agenda #12-18, December 11, 2012. Approved Policy #4370-Seniority For Service Personnel. Approved Personal Protective Equipment Policy as a new policy, and place it on a five day review and comment period. Approved the agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Western Governors University to place student teachers into classrooms in Mason County Schools for required educational experience.

Approved the placement of Kevin Green, a Western Governors University Student, to do student teaching at Wahama Jr/Sr High. Approved volunteers from MCCC and New Haven Elementary for the 2012-13 school year. Approved the out of state field trip request for Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High Baseball Team, James Higginbotham, William Buchanan, Daniel Tench, and approved chaperones, to travel to Myrtle Beach, SC, from April 1, 2013 through April 7, 2013, to participate in a baseball tournament.

Approved out of state travel for Patricia Park, Federal Programs Director, to attend the National Title I Conference in Nashville, TN, from January 21 through January 23, 2013. Title I will be the funding source. Accepted the resignation of Freddie Green, Third Grade Teacher, Ashton Elementary, due to retirement, effective June 10, 2013. Approved Family Medical Leave for Chris Lyons, Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr High, intermittently, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved the employment of Ashley Canaday, Heather Conkey, Kalee Crawford Edmonds, Millicent Kimble, and Susan Rimmey, as Substitute Teachers (pending WVDE Certification and CIB Clearance) for the 2012-13 school year. County will be the funding source.

Accepted the resignation of Patricia Roush, Substitute Aide, effective December 11, 2012. Accepted the resignation of Dennis Matheny, Substitute Mechanic, effective December 31, 2012. Approved the employment of Kelli Cottrill, Substitute Secretary, (pending CIB clearance), for the 2012-13 school year. Voted to adhere to Mason County School Policy 4120.04, Substitute Services, and remove Jason Anderson, Michael Gillispie, Jennifer Hatfield, Robert James, Melanie Johnson, Amanda Morrison, and Melissa Taylor from the Substitute Service list (due to unavailability), effective December 26, 2012.

Accepted the resignation of William Buchanan, Head Girls Varsity Soccer Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective Decemeber 8, 2012. Approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Mason County Board of Education and Pleasant Valley Hospital, to provide Physician consultative services during the 2012-13 school. Total cost will be 7,200.00. Medicaid will be the funding source. Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check Numbers 82206 through 82393, totaling 724,606.71.

In addition to Superintendent Suzanne Dickens, board members present were Thomas Nunnery, Randy Searls, Greg Fowler, Paul Sayre, and Dale Shobe.

The Mason County Board of Education will meet again for a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 7, and a regular business meeting at 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, at the Mason County Career Center.
