BRIEF: Praxair breaks ground on new air separation facility in Memphis
Aug 08, 2012 (Menafn - The Commercial Appeal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Praxair Inc. broke ground Wednesday on a new air separation unit in Memphis that is expected to be operational next year, the company said in a news release.
Praxair, an industrial gases company based in Danbury, Conn., said the new facility will have a capacity of 600 tons per day. The unit will "further strengthen Praxair's supply position in the greater Southeast region, allowing us to meet future demand from companies attracted to the area's business-friendly environment," Kevin Foti, east region vice president for Praxair's U.S. industrial gases business, said in a statement.
Praxair currently operates three air separation units in the Memphis area.
The company announced a joint venture Tuesday with Memphis-based nexAir LLC that will expand nexAir's reach and give Praxair a minority stake in the company.
Praxair is the largest industrial gases company in North and South America, according to the company, with 2011 sales of 11 billion.
