The Hillsboro Lighthouse Preservation Society recently appointed two new directors to replace two of the founding board members: Linda Peck, membership chair, retired from the U.S. Postal Service and also vice president for membership of the Florida Lighthouse Association; and Steve Hoczak, HLPS newsletter editor, and senior director, global professional services at Ebix Inc.
Florida Earth Foundation's Board of Directors added new directors and elected two new officers. Directors are: Stuart J. Appelbaum of engineering consultancy firm Arcadis; David C. Fannin, retired general counsel from Office Depot who serves on the executive committee for the Office Depot Foundation; Kirk Martin, vice president of engineering firm CDM Smith and Keith Rizzardi, visiting assistant professor at the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami and represents clients with Jones, Foster, Johnston and Stubbs PA, in West Palm Beach. Officers are vice chairman David L. John, chairman and chief executive officer of engineering firm Miller Legg Inc. in Fort Lauderdale and Luna Phillips of Gunster, Yoakley & Stewart PA, as secretary of the executive committee and board.

Dennis Olle, a Miami shareholder with Carlton Fields, and director and vice president of the Tropical Audubon Society, received the Tropical Audubon Society's Charles M. Brookfield Medal for "outstanding service in the protection of our natural resources."

Mary Galinat was named Happy & Healthy Products franchise coordinator in Boca Raton.

Santiago Aragon Jr. was appointed vice president of logistics for WTDC.
Finance
Bill Kelley joined First Southern Bank as executive vice president of community banking. Tracy L. Keegan joined as chief financial officer and chief operating officer.

Maureen Gross joined Phelps Media Group Inc, International as director of development and community outreach, in Wellington.
Education
The Florida Atlantic University Foundation Board elected officers and added board members at its annual meeting. Re-elected are: Randy Justice as chairman, Bruce Allen vice-chairman, and David Gury, treasurer. Patricia McKay was elected secretary. Board members include: Denise Dickin, John Duffy, Kathleen Grace, Brett Greenberg, Dale Gregory, Bonnie Kaye, Stewart Martin, Robert Rollins, Jay M. Weinberg and Marilyn Weinberg.

Carlos de Salazar joined Macken Realty as vice president and general operations manager.
Research
Dr. Claudia Hillinger vice president of institute development of the Max Planck Florida Institute in Jupiter, and president of its nonprofit fundraising arm, was presented with the German American Business Chamber of Florida's German American Award of Excellence 2012 at a reception on Thursday at Northern Trust Bank in Miami. Hillinger established the Institute from its inception in 2008, marking Germany's Max Planck Society first facility in the United States. In addition, Hillinger is overseeing the development of its 100,000-square-foot biomedical research center and laboratories on 6 acres at Florida Atlantic University's MacArthur campus in Jupiter.
Hospitality
Loews Hotels & Resorts appointed Shawn Hauver as vice president of operations, and he will manage all aspects of the Eastern Region of Loews Hotels.
