Standard Life supports research into pediatric mental health with a contribution of 50,000
MONTREAL, May 4, 2012, 2012 (Menafn - Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --The Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation announced a 50,000 donation from Standard Life to support research into pediatric mental health.
The contribution will be used to fund a research project led by The Children's Psychiatry Department to look into the effects of anti-psychotic medication on the metabolism of teenagers. Mental health is a critical issue, even in pediatrics, and research is the key to improving treatments. The Children's receives over 300 visits per year of teens and pre-teens showing symptoms of psychotic illness; this study will allow specialists to better determine the risk factor among these children for the development of liver disease and weight gain.
