Fifty million raised by '12-12-12' concert to be disbursed, more expected
Dec 19, 2012 (Menafn - Asbury Park Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --The distribution by the Robin Hood Foundation of the first lump sum of 50 million raised by the "12-12-12" concert, which took place Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and starred Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney and more, will now begin, said the concert's producers in a statement Tuesday.
The fundraising efforts have included ticket sales, sponsorships, telephone and Web donations and merchandise with additional money still coming in and being distributed to aid the victims of superstorm Sandy, according to the statement. Funds are still being generated through contributions and proceeds from online auctions of signed memorabilia, iTunes sales, DVD and CD sales.
David Saltzman, executive director of the Robin Hood Foundation, said that New Jersey Sandy related charities will receive about 40 percent of the funds raised on the night of the concert.
"The money raised to date is going right to hundreds of organizations in the tri-state area serving those who need it most," said Saltzman in a statement Tuesday evening. "Robin Hood has already begun granting the funds for Sandy relief. We are continuing to raise funds through various ongoing sales opportunities and donations and we urge people to continue to contribute."
Ocean County College revealed last week that it will receive 200,000 of the "12-12-12" funds to help students impacted by superstorm Sandy stay in school. Numerous other Jersey groups have received pre-concert "12-12-12" funds from the New York-based Robin Hood group, including the Affordable Housing Alliance of Monmouth County, Casa Freehold, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Community Services, Inc. of Ocean County, the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Sea Bright Rising.
