I was advised by the best on asbestos cases, says Bishop
Nov 18, 2012 (Menafn - The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --Australian Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop has rejected claims she deliberately delayed asbestos compensation claims against manufacturer CSR when she was working as a lawyer. She noted that advice to her on the matters had come from Robert French QC, the current Chief Justice of the High Court, and from David Malcolm QC, an ex-chief justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia. The allegations were raised by Federal Housing, Homelessness and Small Business Minister Brendan O'Connor, after Bishop vowed to further pursue supposed irregularities in Prime Minister Julia Gillard's work as a lawyer with Slater & Gordon in 1995. These relate to a "slush fund" set up to defraud the Australian Workers Union.
