BRIEF: Rockwall fighting to stay in playoff mix
ROCKWALL, Nov 02, 2012 (Menafn - Rockwall County Herald-Banner - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Rockwall's Yellowjackets will be fighting to stay in the District 12-5A playoff hunt tonight when they face undefeated district leader Mesquite at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
With only two games remaining in regular season play, the Jackets (2-2) are tied with Longview (2-2) for third place behind Mesquite (5-0) and Mesquite Horn (4-1). Rockwall-Heath and North Mesquite are one game back with 1-3 records.
The Top-4 finishers will represent 12-5A in Class 5A post-season action.
Rockwall enters tonight's game following last week's bye and consecutive district victories over North Mesquite and Tyler Lee.
Mesquite comes into the game ranked No. 5 in the area and riding a 5-0 district and 9-0 season win streak
The Skeeters pounded Tyler Lee 51-9 last week, led by a five touchdown passing performance from QB Alex Cooper.
Cooper threw for 257 yards on 15-of-17 passing, with WR Rashard Higgins hauling in three TD completions in the first half.
Cooper also ran for 67 yards on eight carries in the win and hit Jordan Bracy with an 80-yard TD strike and Junior Session with a 19-yard touchdown completion.
Rockwall will close out regular season next week against Longview at Lobo Stadium.
