Gulf Coast routs Southwest; Pearl River falls
Oct 14, 2012 (Menafn - The Sun Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Ninth-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College broke a 14-all tie with Southwest Community College and routed the Bears 69-17 at Southwest's homecoming on Saturday evening.
Byron Nettles had a 5-yard TD run and Clint Hatten a 1-yard sneak for a 14-7 lead. After Southwest tied the game at 14, Hatten hit D'haquille Williams with a 66-yard TD pass. Then he followed with an 18-yard TD pass to Williams and the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 South Division) proceeded to break the game open against winless Southwest (0-6, 0-4).
Hatten completed 21 of 28 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Williams made nine catches for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Gulf Coast visits Co-Lin next week in a key South Division game that could determine the South Division champion.
Copiah-Lincoln 44, Pearl River 21: Co-Lin (6-1, 4-0 in the South Divisin) spotted the Wildcats (2-5, 1-3) a 7-3 lead, then scored 38 unanswered points en route to a victory at Pearl River on Saturday afternoon.
Chandler Rogers' 4-yard TD pass to Casey Gladney gave Co-Lin the lead for good at 10-7. Marion Daggon's 76-yard punt return had given PRCC a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.
Dylan Favre tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Darius Holder and a 24-yard TD pass to Chris Perkins in the fourth quarter.
Favre completed 21 of 38 passes for 245 yards with three interceptions. Overall, PRCC had five turnovers.
Co-Lin had 388 yards in total offense with no turnovers.
