Rogers customers experience blazing fast internet speeds with re-speeding initiative

TORONTO, Nov. 5, 2012, 2012 (Menafn - Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --Internet speeds to increase across tiers; Ultimate tier doubles speed to up to 150 Mbps download speeds

Rogers re-speeds three widely available internet tiers; fastest available to the most homes

Rogers Communications, Canada's leading diversified communications and media company, today announced its ongoing commitment to deliver world-leading internet experiences to Canadians by increasing speeds across Rogers internet tiers. Customers will have access to the fastest internet speeds offered by Rogers to date; this means up to 150 Mbps* download speeds across Ontario.

"As part of our commitment to providing customers with what's next in online experiences, we've increased our internet speeds again," said John Boynton, executive vice-president marketing, chief marketing officer, Rogers Communications. "Canadians love the internet and spend more time online than any other country in the world. We continue to make significant network investments to deliver the fastest internet speeds available to the most homes."

Upgraded download speeds keep customers connected to the entertainment, information and social networks that matter to them most, faster than ever before. The following speed increases will be available by the end of the year:

New Ultimate tier: recently doubled from up to 75 Mbps to up to 150 Mbps, and is scheduled to be available to most customers by the end of the year:

--Download speeds of up to 150 Mbps, with a monthly data
allowance of 250 GB
--Download a song in about one second. Download an SD movie in
about 37 seconds
--Customers can download up to 120 HD (2GB) movies, watch 760
hours of HD video or download 64K (4MB) songs, per month

Starting November 7, 2012 Rogers will start automatically upgrading Extreme Plus, Extreme and Express internet tiers for customers with DOCSIS 3.0 capabilities. To benefit from the re-speeding initiative, Rogers customers with DOCSIS 2.0 modems are encouraged to visit their local Rogers retail location and upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and service plan.

--Extreme Plus: download speeds will increase from up to 32 Mbps
to up to 45 Mbps
--Extreme: download speeds will increase from up to 28 Mbps to up
to 35 Mbps
--Express: download speeds will increase from up to 18 Mbps to up
to 25 Mbps. The Express tier, the most popular tier available
from Rogers, has increased in speed by 150 per cent since mid
2011.

Ultimate, Extreme Plus and Extreme tiers - the fastest and most widely available internet speeds available from Rogers - are faster than the other guy's most widely available internet tier (which reaches up to 25 Mbps).

Today's announcement is the latest in a series of initiatives, enhancements and policy changes to ensure Rogers is delivering on customers' expectations. Earlier this year, Rogers engaged LeMay-Yates to conduct research to give a more accurate look at how Canada's broadband speeds stacked on a global scale relative to advertised speeds. The report found Canada ranked within the top 10 countries internationally for fastest internet speeds delivered. In addition, Rogers announced it would phase out its Internet Traffic Management Policy, which was designed to manage peer-to-peer internet uploaded traffic. This phase out is on track to be complete by the end of 2012.
