Winners declared in delegate, senate races
MASON COUNTY, Nov 08, 2012 (Menafn - Point Pleasant Register - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Voters in Mason County, along with voters in surrounding counties, chose delegates and a new state senator on Tuesday night -- two of those delegates being from Mason County.
In the race for West Virginia House of Delegates 13th District, voters chose to send Incumbent Brady Paxton (D) back to the capital along with newcomer Scott Cadle (R) of Letart. Following Paxton and Cadle in terms of votes were Brian "Scotty" Scott (R) and Incumbent Helen Martin (D).
The 13th delegate district includes sections of Mason, Putnam and Jackson counties. Vote totals in each county for each candidate were as follows: Mason County -- Cadle 2,867; Paxton 2,189; Scott 1,653; Martin 1,425. Putnam County -- Scott, 3,072; Paxton, 2,796; Martin, 2,469; Cadle, 1,854. Jackson County -- Paxton, 1,629; Cadle, 1,397; Scott, 1,256; Martin, 1,209. Vote totals from all counties -- Paxton, 6,614; Cadle, 6,118; Scott, 5,981; Martin, 5,103.
In the race for West Virginia House of Delegates 14th District,voters chose Jim Butler (R) of Gallipolis Ferry who defeated Jimmie Wood, Jr. (D) of Point Pleasant. The 14th district is comprised of sections of Mason and Putnam counties. Vote totals in each county for each candidate were as follows: Mason County -- Butler, 2,555; Wood, 2,332. Putnam County -- Butler, 799; Wood, 481. Vote totals from both counties -- Butler, 3,354; Wood, 2,813.
In the race for state senate in the fourth senatorial district, Republican Mitch B. Carmichael defeated Democrat Mike Bright. The fourth senatorial district includes sections of Mason, Putnam, Jackson and Roane counties. Vote totals in each county for each candidate were as follows: Mason County -- Bright, 5,367; Carmichael, 3,948. Jackson County -- Bright, 5,764; Carmichael, 5,625. Putnam County -- Bright, 6,053; Carmichael, 9,757. Roane County -- Bright, 1,508; Carmichael, 1,468. Vote totals from all counties -- Carmichael, 20,798; Bright, 18,693.
Carmichael will fill the seat of outgoing State Sen. Karen Facemyer.
