Pastoral chief looks to China

Nov 04, 2012 (Menafn - The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --Fergal Leamy of private equity firm Terra Firma is succeeding Mark Irwin as CEO of the Consolidated Pastoral Company asset it acquired for A450m in 2009. Since then, the Australian business has been negatively affected by the appreciating local currency, new import restrictions for beef cattle in Indonesia and the erosion of real estate values in the rural sector in Australia. As part of its new strategy, the company will now pursue growth in China. It has boosted its land holdings in Australia by 40,000 ha to in excess of 5.8 million ha, and now has some 370,000 head of cattle.
