BRIEF: Car smashes into Public Square ATM

Sep 18, 2012 (Menafn - The Citizens' Voice - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --A woman crashed into PNC Bank's ATM on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre this afternoon, almost crushing a man who was using it at the time.

Citizens' Voice reporter Bob Kalinowski, 31, of Nanticoke, jumped out of the way when driver Stephanie Curry, 20, of Wilkes-Barre, jumped a curb on Public Square and crashed into the ATM. Curry said her vehicle, a Chevy Cobalt, "hydroplaned" as a result of the rain.

Kalinowski was not injured.

"The only thing I could say about this is I am absolutely lucky to be alive," Kalinowski said. "I was seconds and inches away from being killed or badly injured. For some reason, I was able to notice the out-of-control car and jump out of the way. Thank God."
