BRIEF: Mon Commission slates an extra day for hearing appeals
Nov 09, 2012 (Menafn - The Dominion Post - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --The Monongalia County Commission is reserving Nov. 20 for any remaining property value appeals.
Commissioner Asel Kennedy said the commission met with one property owner -- with more than 100 properties -- Thursday. There are still a few others who are working with the county assessor's office and independent consulting firm Tyler Technologies to resolve any issues, he said.
The county is also double-checking to make sure all the taxpayers who initially asked for an appeal got the opportunity, Kennedy said. "Once we adjourn [as a Board of Equalization and Review], we can't hear them anymore."
The County Commission ruled on property value appeals for nearly 2,000 parcels in February and March. Because it couldn't handle all the requests in that time frame, a circuit court judge ruled the commission could schedule any remaining appeals in October.
