BRIEF: Phila police: man shot and killed after pointing gun
Jul 14, 2012 (Menafn - The Philadelphia Inquirer - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Philadelphia Police shot and killed a 20-year-old man in Hunting Park Friday night after the man pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the officers during a traffic stop, police said.
Around 11:30 p.m., a 25th district sergeant pulled over a 2007 BMW on the 4400 block of Rising Sun Avenue, said Lt. Ray Evers, a department spokesman.
The sergeant and two patrol officers had approached the vehicle when the driver exited, pointing a gun at the officers, Evers said.
The sergeant and one of the patrol officers fired, striking the man three to four times in the chest.
The unidentified suspect died at the scene.
No police officers were injured.
Police are still investigating the shooting and more details will come this afternoon, Evers said.
