Top End rail plan for new steel industry

Dec 04, 2012 (Menafn - The Australian - ABIX via COMTEX) --Shane Condon, the proponent of Project Iron Boomerang, has secured the Nomura Research Institute in Japan as consultant for the ambitious plan to create a new slab steel industry in Australia. The major components will be two steel mills on opposite sides of the country, and a new rail line to link them. Coal from Queensland will be used as well as iron ore from Western Australia, and the estimated cost of the entire development is up to A50bn. The unidentified financiers of the project by East West Line Parks will pay A30m for a feasibility study, also featuring Tata Steel's consulting division.
