BRIEF: St. Paul: Ford Plant demolition gets green light to start this spring

Dec 28, 2012 (Menafn - Pioneer Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Ford Motor Co.'s Highland Park assembly plant is cleared for teardown starting next spring after the St. Paul Planning Commission approved the company's plans for the demolition.

Conditions for the project -- approved unanimously Friday, Dec. 28 -- include environmental precautions, sight and sound buffers and limits on work hours.

The company will post a 7.5 million bond for the demolition, with that total falling as work progresses. The project is expected to take about three years, with cleanup and restoration potentially stretching to 2018.

The city hopes the 122-acre site, at 966 Mississippi River Blvd. S., will be a prime spot for development along the river.
