SHKP Undergraduate Scholarships for employees' children to pursue university studies
Dec 19, 2012 (Menafn - M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok presented Group Undergraduate Scholarships to ten recipients at a recent ceremony and encouraged them to make the most of the learning opportunity. SHKP places great emphasis on staff well-being and this caring spirit has been extended to the children of employees, with the scholarship scheme offering them full support to study at universities or other tertiary institutions.
The programme provides financial assistance for children of employees who have been with SHKP for five years or more. Full-time students at Hong Kong or mainland universities or other tertiary institutions are eligible.
Mr. Kwok said education is important for whole-person development and lifelong learning and moving with the times are crucial components of the corporate culture. The Group values its people and the scholarship scheme was set up to develop talented children of staff. He inspired the recipients to enrich their knowledge and experience through their studies, extra-curricular activities and internships and become future leaders of society.
The selection committee chose the candidates based on their school and public exam results, overall accomplishments and financial need. The ten recipients this year will study medicine, Chinese language and literature, radiology, computing, history, business administration and surveying at the University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University and Hong Kong Institute of Education.
Chef Lau Shek-fai, who has been with SHKP for nearly 18 years, appreciated the scholarship granted to his son Lau Ka-wai to pursue a surveying course at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Lau Ka-wai said: "My parents are working for SHKP and I've wanted to work in the property sector since I was little. This scholarship gives me an amazing opportunity to fulfill my dream of becoming a surveyor and contribute to the community."
