Microsoft Corporation interested in Turkmen market

Nov 01, 2012 (Menafn - Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan -- Microsoft Corporation Multicountry, Central & Eastern European Headquarters General Manager Takuya Hirano said during his visit to Ashgabat that his company is interested in a close partnership with Turkmenistan, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan said today.

Microsoft Corporation representatives took part in an international investment forum.

"We are sure of the high potential of the partnership with Turkmenistan," he added. "We are ready to present innovations. One of the promising areas of the partnership is the protection of intellectual property. According to the practice, this promotes innovative industry as a whole."

The company has started to localise its products. In particular, Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office package has been translated into the Turkmen language. According to the businessman this product proved to be quite popular.

Microsoft considers support for local creators, establishing innovation centres and preparing programmes for educational institutions are among the promising areas of cooperation.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting on the transition to the innovative development of the national economy that the matter rests in its comprehensive modernisation and diversification in the period of gradual transition to a market economy.

The Academy of Sciences which was earlier disbanded and the post-graduate school were restored. The unique institutions of desert and sun were also restored.

Turkmenistan took a course to actively use alternative energy sources, particularly solar and wind power in 2007 and also develop nanotechnologies for the country's progressive movement.

The industrial park will be constructed by Turkish company Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve Sanayi Ticaret A.S in 2014. It partially resembles a campus which operated during the USSR period. Industrial parks first appeared in the U.S. The first park in the USSR was built in the city of Tomsk in 1988.
