BRIEF: Oregon City boys searching for bikes stolen outside local Kmart
May 09, 2012 (Menafn - The Oregonian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Two Oregon City boys are hoping the public can help find their two bikes stolen Tuesday night outside the Beaver Creek Road Kmart.
After Tanner Phelps, 13, and Kenny Jeff, 12, went inside the store to use the restroom, they returned to find their BMX bikes gone, according to Phelps' father, Casey.
The boys immediately called for help, filing a report with Oregon City police. Several people helped drive the boys around to search, to no avail, said Casey Phelps.
"They've been surprised that people are willing to help them," he said.
Phelps said the loss has been difficult because his son saved over 1,500 from odd jobs to purchase the bikes, and cannot afford to replace them.
The two boys are trying to keep positive, Phelps said. "I wish I were as optimistic as they were," said Phelps, "but they're hoping that they're going to turn up."
The family has been posting flyers around the city, and any information on the theft can be reported to Oregon City Police Officer Daniel Hanes at 503-496-1586 ext. 701.
