BRIEF: WWU's Geary earns Daktronics All-America honorable mention
Dec 07, 2012 (The Bellingham Herald (Menafn - Bellingham - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --Western Washington University senior outside hitter Marlayna Geary earned honorable mention on the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Team.
Geary, who earlier was named a first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, ranked 15th nationally among NCAA II leaders and led the GNAC in both kills (4.12 average per set, 396 total) and points (4.72, 453.5).
Geary was a first-team AVCA and Daktronics West Region all-star and Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year. A unanimous first-team all-league pick, she had a GNAC-best 18 double-doubles in kills and digs.
Geary finished her four-year career with 1,354 kills, second among WWU leaders and 25 shy of the school record. She also had 983 digs, 10th all-time among Viking leaders. Geary was 17 digs short of becoming the fourth WWU player to reach the 1,000 plateau in both categories.
Geary was picked to the West Regional all-tournament team and twice earned GNAC Player of the Week honors. Geary received MVP honors at both the Western Oregon and Sonoma State tournaments.
