All-Star spotlight: Eastern York's Alex Cooley

YORK, Pa., Dec 23, 2012 (Menafn - York Daily Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --In 2012, Alex Cooley produced the sort of football season seldom seen in York or Adams counties. Or the state, for that matter.

The Eastern York senior churned through defenses this fall and made 300-yard rushing games seem routine. His 2,845 rushing yards were the sixth-best single-season total ever in the state. And Cooley didn't even have the benefit of an extra playoff game or two.

On Sept. 28, the powerful, 5-foot-7 runner set a new single-game PIAA record when he ran for 500 yards in a win at Hanover.

We recently had a chance to chat with Cooley, the Daily Record/Sunday News YAIAA Division III football player of the year.

So how much time off did you take between the end of football season and the start of wrestling?

About a week. I wish I had some more time. I'm getting beat up here.

What was your favorite moment of the season?

Definitely beating York Catholic. I know the guys really wanted to win that one.

Do you have any superstitions on game day?

Not really.

What opponent gave you the most fits on the field?

Bermudian. I couldn't do anything against them.

If your sport wasn't offered, what sport would you play?

I definitely wouldn't be playing soccer. I'd probably just lift weights or something.

What sport are

you the absolute worst at?

Definitely baseball. I can't hit a ball to save my life.

Did you ever play?

I tried to play T-ball. I struck out every time.

Who is your role model?

Probably my oldest brother, Shane Cooley. I always looked up to him. He's an amazing wrestler.

What is your favorite activity off the field?

Probably just lifting weights.

Best advice you ever got from a coach?

Probably just go out and play your heart out every down.

If they made a movie about your life, who plays you?

Vin Diesel.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Buffalo chicken.

Name one place you'd love to go during your lifetime.

Tokyo. One Fast and Furious movie was in Tokyo, so that looked cool.

If you could have dinner with any three people -- dead or alive -- who would it be and why?

Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin and Troy Aikman. Because the Dallas Cowboys are the best team ever.

Favorite pro sports team?

Dallas Cowboys.

Last thing: Any progress on the recruiting front and where you might be going to school?

There's a lot of schools coming to visit. Nothing's going to be official until like January, though.
